Terms of Use

These Terms of Use ("Terms") govern your use of the PDFChat AI iOS application ("the App"). By installing or using the App, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the App.

1. The Service

PDFChat AI lets you scan paper documents, import PDFs and other documents, and (optionally) chat with them, summarize them, and translate them using AI. The App is provided as-is by Artem Osetrov ("we", "us").

2. Subscription

2.1 Free trial and paid plans

PDFChat AI is free to install. Some features (unlimited scans, unlimited AI chat, unlimited translations) require a paid subscription.

• Yearly Premium — $29.99/year (USD). Prices in other currencies are auto-converted by Apple and may vary.

2.2 Auto-renewable subscription terms (required by Apple)

• Payment will be charged to your Apple ID account at confirmation of purchase.
• Subscription automatically renews at the same price unless auto-renew is turned off at least 24 hours before the end of the current period.
• Your account will be charged for renewal within 24 hours prior to the end of the current period.
• You can manage your subscription and turn off auto-renewal in your Apple ID account settings: iOS Settings → Apple ID → Subscriptions.
• No cancellation of the current subscription is allowed during the active period; the subscription remains active until the end of the current term.
• Any unused portion of a free trial is forfeited when you purchase a subscription.

2.3 Refunds

Refund requests are handled by Apple, not by us. To request a refund: reportaproblem.apple.com.

2.4 Price changes

If we change the subscription price, we will notify you in advance through the App and you will need to accept the new price before the next renewal.

3. AI Features and Accuracy

AI summaries, answers, and translations are generated by large language models (OpenAI's GPT-4o-mini and embedding models, accessed via our proxy). AI output:

• May contain errors, hallucinations, or out-of-context interpretations. Always verify AI answers against the source document, especially for legal, medical, financial, or other consequential decisions.
• Is not professional advice. PDFChat AI is not a substitute for a lawyer, doctor, accountant, or other qualified professional.
• Cites pages, but cites can be wrong. The cited page is our best guess from semantic search; always confirm by reading the page yourself.

4. Acceptable Use

You agree not to use the App to:

• Process documents you do not have the legal right to process (e.g., copyrighted material you do not own or have a license for, confidential third-party data, classified information).
• Attempt to extract our proxy's secrets, App Attest tokens, or signed assertions for use outside the App.
• Send abusive volumes of requests to overload the proxy.
• Generate, store, or share content that is illegal in your jurisdiction (CSAM, hate speech, threats, etc.).
• Reverse engineer, decompile, or attempt to access source code that is not made available.

We reserve the right to block any device (via App Attest key) that violates these terms.

5. Intellectual Property

• The App, its design, code, and brand are owned by Artem Osetrov.
• Your documents and content remain entirely yours. We claim no ownership over anything you process with the App.
• AI-generated text is provided to you without copyright claim from us; OpenAI's terms govern AI output and are linked at openai.com/policies/terms-of-use.

6. Privacy

Our handling of data is described in the Privacy Policy.

7. Disclaimers

THE APP IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE" WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EITHER EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT.

We do not warrant that the App will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that AI answers will be accurate. We are not liable for any losses arising from your reliance on AI output, the unavailability of the proxy server, OpenAI service interruptions, or data loss caused by your device or iCloud.

8. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, our total liability to you for any claim arising out of or related to the App is limited to the amount you paid for your subscription in the 12 months before the claim arose. This limit applies even if a remedy fails of its essential purpose.

9. Termination

You may stop using the App at any time by uninstalling it. We may suspend or terminate your access if you violate these Terms.

10. Changes to Terms

We may update these Terms. Material changes will be communicated through the App and will require your acceptance before continued use. Continued use after the changes constitutes acceptance.

11. Governing Law and Disputes

These Terms are governed by the laws of the jurisdiction where the developer resides. Any dispute will be resolved through binding arbitration in that jurisdiction, except where prohibited by your local consumer protection laws.

12. Apple's Standard EULA

To the extent permitted by Apple's standard Licensed Application End User License Agreement, those terms also apply to your use of the App. They are available at apple.com/legal/internet-services/itunes/dev/stdeula/.
